Devin Haney vs. Regis Prograis PPV Buys Expected To Outperform Lomachenko Clash

Highlights

  • Devin Haney secures a world title in his second division, establishing himself as an elite boxer and potential Fighter of the Year candidate.
  • Regis Prograis, who claimed Haney had "no power," set a new CompuBox record for fewest punches landed in a 12-round championship fight.
  • Eddie Hearn expects Haney-Prograis to sell over 100,000 PPV, although it won't reach the numbers of Davis vs. Garcia, remaining optimistic due to strong ticket demand.

Devin Haney emerged triumphant in his clash against Regis Prograis, securing a world title in his second division. ‘The Dream’ is also a box office star with commendable pay-per-view numbers in his biggest fight against Vasily Lomachenko. Leading up to the fight, the duo engaged in spirited trash-talking. Prograis, attempting to undermine Haney, asserted he possessed "no power" and limited resistance to punches. However, it was Prograis, aged 34, who found himself knockdown and landing a mere 38 punches, setting a new CompuBox record for the fewest punches landed in a 12-round championship fight.

The previous record belonged to Edwin De Los Santos, who landed 40 punches against Shakur Stevenson just last month. Haney's ascent as a boxing star continues as he willingly faces formidable opponents. Throughout the match, he repeatedly destabilized Prograis, maintaining control from the first bell to the last. Haney not only solidified his status as an elite boxer but also positioned himself as a Fighter of the Year candidate.

Eddie Hearn Optimistic About Haney-Prograis PPV Numbers

The Matchroom Boss Believes Haney Will Outperform His Lomachenko Fight Numbers

In an interview with Fight Hype, Eddie Hearn revealed that he expects Haney-Prograis to sell more than 100,000 PPV. He acknowledged the fight won’t sell as much as Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia which sold over one million PPV buys.

“What did Haney-Loma do? 100,000? I expect it to do a lot more than that, but I do also acknowledge it’s not Canelo against GGG. It’s not Ryan Garcia against Tank Davis, so i’m very optimistic because of the number of the gate,” Hearn said.

“I’m very optimistic because of the numbers at the gate. Some people might say, ‘The gate means nothing in relation to the pay-per-views.’ Pretty much most times when you have a strong demand for tickets at the gate, it gives you a good indication of the general demand of the show,” he added.

Hearn Says The DAZN Model Is In It’s Infancy

DAZN Is Not Focused On The PPV Model

Acknowledging that DAZN is still in the early stages of its pay-per-view structure, Hearn understands that significant numbers might not be immediate. He notes that DAZN is primarily a subscription platform and emphasizes that the pay-per-view model is occasionally utilized for significant fights, ensuring financial viability. Despite the current stage of DAZN's pay-per-view model, Hearn remains optimistic about the prospects for success over time.

Therefore, it is likely that Haney-Prograis PPV sales were in the range of 150,000 to 250,000. As previously reported by The Sportster, the fight was free to stream for DAZN subscribers in the UK and $74.99 in the United States. With the hype for the fight, the streaming platform would have received a hike in its subscriptions internationally and over $11 million from PPV sales if it sold at least 150,000 buyers.
